How sculptor Jonathan Matthews brings Batman, Superman and Harley Quinn to life
The worlds of Batman and Superman collide with wax and ZBrush
I am, and most likely you too, are a huge collector and admirer of action figures and statues of characters I love - one of my most beloved pieces is the DC Direct Mike Mignola Batman Black and White statue released in 2006 and I thought it would be great to chat to sculptor Jonathan Matthews that sculpted it and has sculpted a ton of the best DC Direct action figures and statues over the past 15 years to discuss how he made that statue and how he works to sculpt our favorite superheroes and supervillains into 3 dimensions.
Find out how the worlds of Batman, Superman and the Harley Quinn collide with the worlds of wax, silicone and ZBrush with Sculptor Supreme Jonathan Matthews inside The Hyper Room.
And yes DC Direct is dead - but they will seemingly release the last batch of solicited projects before turning out the lights for good.

5. Tenet
I was fortunate enough to see Christopher Nolan’s Tenet in the theatre, but now you can watch it at home and while there weren’t many other new movies this year - Tenet would be my pick of 2020 - it defines the genre and demands repeat viewings. I got the iTunes version so that I can hear it in Spatial Sound with the AirPod Pro’s outside of the smaller screen, the sound mix is waayyyyyy better and I can turn on English subtitles because trust me you need them to take notes!
4. Daredevil #25
Matt Murdock is in jail (long story 24 issues worth in fact) so someone new becomes Daredevil and it’s a very famous female supporting character - 3 guesses who it is, and it’s not Karen Page or Claire Temple. Variant cover is up for a second printing that spoils it and eBay listings for a first print give it away too.
3. Cyberpunk 2077
After a week breaking sales records (8mm pre-sold) now everyone finds out the game wasn’t ready to release and all kinds of bugs and crap have been found. My PS5 version seems fine except for some small graphics issues but for some it’s so bad they have issued refunds! I doubt you care, because if you did you already bought it and are playing it bugs and all like the rest of us samurais!
2. Todd McFarlane wins 2020
The Spawnfather released ALL THESE FIGURES during a pandemic and he’s shipping his $3.4mm Kickstarter this week as well. A crazy year for Todd to get back into toys and keeping us filled with incredible DC action figures - my favorite was the Azrael figure and the Warhammer ones were also amazing! What is he going to do OUT of a pandemic?
1. The Mandalorian Season Finale!
If you haven’t seen this yet then you obviously don’t care. But it brought peace to The Force for once, in the past 20 years and it looks like Boba Fett is the new Jabba the Hutt? See you in December 2021 for a new Star Wars show(s) on Disney+. And which self-respecting Star Wars and Marvel nerd didn’t pick up as many $80 Disney shares back in March as they could knowing full well all this was going to happen one way or another?
