From KISS to Star Trek to Minimates: The Art Asylum Story
The incredible story of one of the most influential action figure companies of all time.
If you collected action figures in the 2000’s then you know the name Art Asylum, one of the only companies from that decade that not only still have their products in the market today - Minimates and Star Trek - but really influenced the way action figures are made and packaged.
So its super awesome that I was able to get both Digger Mesch and Donna Costa on the podcast to talk about starting a studio in 90s Brooklyn (!) to chasing the Star Trek licenses right after the tragedy of 9/11.

Also, if you missed the previous episode with Top Cow president Matt Hawkins, definitely check it out - he started out with Rob Liefeld writing press releases, to creating Lady Pendragon to running Marc Silvestri’s Top Cow for over 20 years now - we talk future of comics, crowdfunding and his own take on “romance comics” for the 21st century (hint: includes swinging).

5. Resident Evil 8: Village
Everyone is waiting for the new Resident Evil game and a demo dropped this week exclusively on Playstation 5 and it looks as great as ever on next-gen console and is now open for pre-order May 7, 2021.
4. Demon Slayer now on Netflix
Demon Slayer - the number one manga that spawned the number one anime and movie in Japan is now finally on Netflix so you no longer have to be the last person to jump on the Mugen Train.
3. Invincible coming March 26
I am a HUGE fan of this comic, and this week creator Robert Kirkman announced the animated series will drop on Amazon Prime on March 26, 2021 and will run weekly after the first 3 episodes drop that Friday. Will it be as crazy gory and over the top as the comic?
2. DC’s Future State
Week 2 of DC’s Future State line has dropped and people seem to like it as it’s giving everyone new versions of the main DC heroes but keeping the “diversity” card close to the vest and just giving readers good stories with these new takes. ICYMI DC stopped all the regular versions of their pantheon for 4 months to do these Future State takes, everything goes back to normal soon but these stories will have lasting repercussions….and new action figures for McFarlane Toys to produce!
1. WandaVision
If you loved it or are mystified by it, WandaVision is on everyone’s minds as it continues to subvert what a Marvel show can be. I love it! But I read all the comics and know where this is all heading - at least I think I do, knowing the MCU they will still pull out some surprises - but hang in there true-believers, Marvel always delivers!
